Wallpaper

When I had my house, it was a new build, with almost perfect, emulsioned walls. No wallpaper. I've tended to stick to that and just emulsion walls antique white. Our hotel room at the weekend had a feature wall with beautiful wallpaper. It's put me in the notion to do the same with my bedroom.

Are you plain walls, or do you prefer a nicely patterned wallpaper?

Re: Wallpaper

Alice I used to enjoy papering walls, my walls are all plain now it makes it easier to keep them looking good.
I would not want a 'feature wall', like all the other fashion fads eg the dado rail they date very quickly.

A lot of the 'feature walls' seem to 'feature' the exact same paper too

Re: Wallpaper

I had a new build house before i got this one, and it was painted in an off white just the same, i think it's to give you a blank canvas so you can do whatever you want with it. I just left it as it was and it felt no different to paper really, as i introduced some warm Reds so it didn't have a cold feel.
Now in this house being older and lived in, it has the usual paper and Anaglypta and Artex ceilings with coving. But really i rather have wallpaper you can change the rooms look and make it your own style.

Re: Wallpaper

Meg it definitely is easier to keep plain walls. In here it's mostly anaglypta wallpaper, already here when I arrived! I've emulsioned over some of it. So much more to do. Although that wallpaper in the hotel room was nice, I couldn't go back to patterned wallpaper throughout. That would just be too much Dado rails were nice in their time, and wallpaper borders. I had them all, but just want an easy life nowadays I did like that wallpaper though......

Re: Wallpaper

I used to love wallpaper still do if I can find something I like sadly most seem to be huge patterns and bright colours whereas I like a smaller pattern and keep away from the neons.

Re: Wallpaper

All rooms chez Apricot are plain magnolia painted, bar one which has, even though I say it myself, very nice wallpaper.

Mags, in here has been wallpapered too, but the hall was replastered as I tried to take the wallpaper off and the plaster came off with it . It'll be a case of emulsioning walls in here as I'd hate there to be plaster everywhere. That wallpaper at the hotel was so rich looking. It looked great and complimented the furniture.

Re: Wallpaper

I've always painted. Habit, I guess, but I am not really keen on wallpaper. I do use colour in places, though.

Re: Wallpaper

I do like to have one wall in the room wallpapered, it just adds a bit of interest. I couldn't afford to do a whole room anyway, so I like to pick the best I can afford.
