Right To Buy ?

The Cons will introduce this scheme again
I'm against it, it went horribly wrong the last time, this time they say you can use the money to build further housing, but as the housing association said this morning, the houses will be sold at discounted prices to tenants so leaves the HA short to rebuild and my question would be - where - do we build the new houses if they do get built !

My question would be where are all the people who desperately need homes going to live?

Places akin to the Housing Association - getting a mortgage the way this country stands is very risky anyway .....
But you're right where are all these new houses coming from and where will they be built ?

Do we never learn anything from the past ? People who really need help are those waiting for council housing and people in private rental situations. People already in social housing (and yes we are one of them) are the lucky ones.

Our local authority have given planning permission for two huge housing estates on the outskirts of Kettering. If all towns do likewise there should be enough houses for everyone.

Last year, 112,070 people declared themselves homeless in England – a 26% increase in four years. At the same time, the number of people sleeping rough in London grew by 75% to a staggering 6,437. Why? A £7bn cut in housing benefit, welfare reforms and a huge lack of affordable housing.

I despair of this country, another of the mad womans contibutions to the destruction of the UK, now being spouted by one of the vegetables to try and gain votes. If you sell off homes and dont replace them while population is growing, how the hell are those at the bottom of the pile ever going to have a chance of security and the possibility to raise themselves above gutter level.Must add the greater crime was the Blair brigade not doing anything to improve this problem.

How can that be true when in the EU thread it was stated that the monthly wage in Britain was higher than that in Germany?

Re: Right To Buy ?

What never has really been explained is, just say the council already owns a parcel of land, and on that land, the build cost of a house for rent (from the Council) is say 40K, and the rent is say £500 per month, the capital outlay would be recouped in 80 months (six and a half years) then apart from periodic maintenance which should be minimal with modern building materials, it's profit all the way, why are Councils so reluctant to build?
