Stigma....Does It Still Exist?

I was thinking back to years ago when there was a lot of 'stigma' around. Yet today, the very things that were stigmatised then, no one bats an eyelid any more!
It's ok to have a baby/babies with lots of fathers and not be married, or are we just, no longer shocked?
You can marry or be with someone of a different colour or religion and no one bothers...or do they?
Is suffering mental health still a stigma?
Does 'stigma' still exist? Has it affected your life years ago, or now?

Re: Stigma....Does It Still Exist?

Certainly is in the case of Mental Health, and being unemployed or disabled seems to now carry more stigma.

Re: Stigma....Does It Still Exist?

I think that a stigma still lives with us older people as we were brought up to believe that these things were wrong. As it was handed down through the ages to them..
My Grandfather was in an Asylum for mental health, nowadays they probably just give him tablets to take to overcome the illness.

I don't think we should accept young kids having kids they should be on the pill from an early age, and just have two childeren no more! And should marry the same race and a different gender..

We have a slack government that won't deal with all these issues, we should be able to speak up. WE ARE THE PEOPLE!!

My daughter in law Paula also has epilepsy and to the best of my knowledge she has never been stigmatised.
She holds down a responsible job and takes care of her home and family.

I am disgusted by bigots who still stigmatise people who are gay. Homosexuality is as normal as heterosexuality and should be treated as such.

Once I was told by an elderly man my parents should punish me for writing with my left hand!
