Solid State Laser Technolgy.

https://www.theengineer.co.uk/bae-ou...hield-concept/

Solid State Laser Technology. ..science fact or fiction?

BAE are looking into invisible deflector shields to protect aircraft and ships against laser attack.

It is forecast that within the next 10-20 years laser warfare will be extensively used in the battlefield......a scarey thought.

Buck Rogers eat yer heart out.

Yes its quite disturbing the amount of research towards robotising weapons of war as well as improved lazers, shields, mass drones, unmanned subs , have been mentioned this week

The days of a good old scrap.....man pitting his skills against another's will be a thing of the past......I suppose that could be said throughout history......

if these weapons bring less collateral damage by virtue of accuracy and containment. ...then thats has to be good......though all I can imagine is mass destruction.

Hi

Well the EU are ahead of the game, they are giving robots a legal status.

There already exist some fully autonomous weapons systems.

I imagine wars in future will be fought with Drones. Unlike ICBM's where only a few would be launched, Drones could be launched in their thousands making it virtually impossible to knock them all out before arriving at their target.

The robot battle scenes from Terminator spring to my mind.
