Oh dear, the EU is not having all its own way.

Hi

Remember Flicker's posts about the EU dictating the terms of any Trade Agreement ?

Donald does not agree.

Volkswagen/Audi have recently had to pay a fine of billions for fiddling the emissions tests to the USA

We should be doing the same.

The EU has taken steps well before Chump thought about it. The EU is to sue 7 member states for failing to police emissions properly...including the UK.

and what does this has to do with who has the upper hand in Brexit negotiations?
This article is about steel, not vehicle emissions. Trump wants to raise the cost of EU steel in the US. The EU is fighting back.
So what?

So what?
Isn't that what we have been saying to you when you threaten that we will be sorry for leaving?
Nobody knows what will happen ( no matter which newspapers they read ) because our future will be decided by how well we trade with the rest of the world.
What we have, from leaving the EU, is the freedom to run our country as we choose.... and the EU are scared that other members may want to consider that option. Once again we all need to be patient and see what happens.

Hi

Great post Flicker, cheered me up no end.

So now the EU is going to fine the UK for not prosecuting Volkswagen for cheating.

Hilarious when you think about it.he

Re: Oh dear, the EU is not having all its own way.

SF the EU is not fining you for not prosecuting VW.
It is fining you for not policing the emissions properly. You didn't spot it. Whether you would have prosecuted VW IF you had found out is another matter. You could have made it a class action suit alongside other EU countries and the US.
If each nation is responsible for checking emissions in their own country, (ie has sovereignty for its own pollutants) then the EU can fine you. Simples.

You don't quite get this do you?
This is a myth.
Each time you sign one of the 80 or so trade deals you will need to make up what you threw away, you will have to obey the rules of the other country. Including any EU country....which at the minute you wont be trading with because you won't accept one of their rules.

As for making your own rules, please list me some you think you can't make because of the EU and which would make the UK a better place.

Please be gracious enough to allow those who live in Britain to deal with this themselves. If you feel safe in France I wish you well, but I really don't want to listen to the words of somebody who will not be affected by Brexit...... unless of course you were wrong in saying that the rest of the EU won't suffer when Britain leaves.
I am not sure what your crystal ball is telling you, but I am not interested in your opinion so will put you on ignore!
