Such a gentle creature, I just wish they would now leave them in the wild.

Re: RIP snooty

With the technology we have these days I don't think we need zoos but reserves where endangered species can be kept safe with perfect conditions in place to encourage breeding. And definitely not hunting allowed under any condition's, I have that lion, his son and the dentist in mind.
We have the technology these days to be able to film them for twenty four hours a day without disturbing them so that the public can see them without them being in cages, tanks etc.
And as for places that have killer whales, sea lions etc that are wild animals taught tricks to perform that's just ridiculous.
Dogs taught tricks by their owners is different as the dog likes the attention from their owner and are domesticated anyway.

Re: RIP snooty

One of the most exciting sights on my recent trip was the sight of a dugong near Broome in northern WA.

Unfortunately I didn't get a picture but there are turtles and snub fin dolphins here:

BTW Dugongs are related to manatees and are similar in appearance and behaviour— though the dugong's tail is fluked like a whale's. Both are related to the elephant, although the giant land animal is not at all similar in appearance or behaviour.

Me too!
There's no need for zoos now we have a virtual World.
I understand manatees get injured by boats too, poor things.
