Darkest Hour

Winston Churchill at the beginning of the war.
A great film .
I didn't know the British Garrison at Calais held out to allow the evacuation of Dunkirk . They were completely destroyed .
Sad but stirring stuff .

That film is on my list of those to watch.
There's lots about the War that we know nothing about.

Re: Darkest Hour

I went to see this excellent film yesterday evening. It was certainly an Oscar winning performance from Gary Oldman. The facial prosthetics transforming him into Churchill were incredible, even in close-up they were undetectable. The film certainly showed what a flawed individual he was.

Only one scene jarred as far as I was concerned and that was obviously done for effect, when Churchill supposedly went onto the Underground and assessed the views of the British public - this never happened.

All in all I felt it was a great movie and would score it 5/5.

Next week I would like to see The Post, starring Merryl Streep and Tom Hanks about the Washington Post and the Pentagon Papers.

Re: Darkest Hour

Really enjoyed it Muddy, it seemed to end too soon though, I wanted it to go on longer. I fear it's created more questions than it's answered....

Re: Darkest Hour

I have not seen it yet but intend to. Gary Oldman is a superb actor imo.

Re: Darkest Hour

Longdogs, it is very hard to believe that it actually is Gary Oldman, he is transformed and the acting throughout the film, by him, and the others, was flawless.

Re: Darkest Hour

last time i went to the pictures it was at the rembrant in Ewell surrey.
Only thing was it was right next to the railway line , so every time a train passed the building and screen shook like mad. So as a teenager with a load of mates and others a few jeers went up from those watching
