Re: Old Movies

Hi Bigfella

I used to love anything with Cary Grant, Rock Hudson (yes I know he was gay), or Robert Mitchum in them. I had quite 'a thing' for Robert Mitchum when I was younger.

They don't make 'em like that any more.

Re: Old Movies

Not being able to see the video, I've just gone on to 'properties' and see its The Song of Bernadette.

I watched that once, so might try it again.

I also like watching the old movies Longfellow, there are so many, but the musicals usually seem to get preference.

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness I would like to see again, but cannot find it on youtube.

Re: Old Movies

I also love old films. One of my favourites being the John Mills version of 'Great Expectations'. The opening sequence in the graveyard still scares me witless !

Re: Old Movies

If one is patient, all these films mentioned either have been shown recently and will be again, or their time will come soon.

The BFI are showing many of these films (Ch 81 Freeview) everyday.

Re: Old Movies

I think the reason we like old films is the direction. Directors knew how to tell a story in simple terms, no mumbling, no overbearing background music and no leaving the viewer wondering what it was all about at the end.

I know modern directors think they are uber clever but they could still learn a lot from the old guys.

I love the old Movies.
The old Hammer Horrors have me in hysterics.
My absolute favourite of all time is Gone with the Wind.
