Oz Convict Ships

Ryde here in the UK was the point where convicts were transported to Australia.Here is the plaque commemorating HMS Sirius. Near Appley Tower on the seafront. Bruce may be interested ?

and it was all done with no engines - that amazes me - the audacity of the british sailors to think they could sail all over the globe just with sails and wind - and they did - my great great great etc grandfather just missed out on being transported for stealing govt mail!

After the battle of Culloden many Jacobite prisoners were kept on hulks in appalling conditions, of these 3500 prisoners taken, just over 900 were transported, dont know how many ended in OZ though.

I have never known Appley Tower to be used for anything. Puckpool Park changed!
Shame as a child I liked the parrot, and all the history there, the underground cinema now blocked.
Sorry, I'm getting nostalgic.
