He won the formula 1 championship driving for Ferrari, in 1964
he also won the world championship on motorcycles , the only man ever to do so
I never knew he had a son who died at Brands Hatch.
As to John ,.. a great competitor, from the days when you felt they actually loved the sport and were in it to win it ... and didn't just do it for the money.
On my first bike, a BSA Bantam,I was going to be another John Surtees.But lack of skill and fear of painful death soon disabused me of that fantasy.
