Nine Children Mauled During Frenzied Dog Attack In Northumberland Park

When oh when are some dog owners going to learn responsibility?

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/nine-child...073254243.html

A crazed dog went on a 45 minute rampage, biting and mauling nine children who were playing in the park.

The animal - that is thought to have been a Staffordshire bull terrier - was off its lead and its owner had removed the muzzle.

It then started running and attacking various children who were plating in the park in Blyth, Northumberland, at around 6.30pm last night.

Eyewitnesses say the dog also bit its owner, a woman, before running off and attacking the children.

The father of one of the children bitten by the dog managed to tackle the dog to the ground and pin it down until officers fro Northumbria Police arrived.

Eyewitness Sheryl Allison, of Burns Avenue, whose 12-year-old daughter was in the park at the time, told The Chronicle: “The dog attacked about 14 kids, it was like a terrorist attack.

“There were injured kids lying all over the place, it was a warzone.”

She added: “The dog was completely out of control.”

Paramedics treated the children at the scene but they were all later taken to hospital.

None are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

A police spokesperson said they were now investigating the incident and are currently searching for the dog’s owner.

They added: “Police remain in the area to reassure the local community and carry out enquiries to locate the animal’s owner.

“The dog is currently at secure kennels while officers carry out their investigation.”

I certainly agree with you re the owner, obviously the type of person who should never have been allowed to own a dog in the first place. What kind of person is so irresponsible as to take off the dog's muzzle and lead and let it loose in a place where children, and possibly other dogs, are? I'm quite sure the owner knew the dog was not "friendly".

It must be a nightmare for the rest of the residents Nom. I imagine some people with small children and small pets must be afraid too go out.

I agree!

I am of the opinion that all dog owners should not only have their animals microchipped, they should have to pay a substantial licence to own one at least £100, if not more.

Nine more reasons why all dogs should be on leads and muzzled in public places.

This is not typical behaviour that a dog would run amok biting people in this way .There must be more to it than this .

Some dogs do that! A dog (Jack Russell) and its owner walk passed me a few weeks ago, and the nasty creature went for me, totally unprovoked, and bit my wellington boot. If I hadn't been wearing them I might have had a nasty wound. I told the owner that if I heard the creature had attacked anyone else I would ensure it was put down.
