Germans for example complained often loudly of Turkish "guest workers" taking German jobs over 50 years ago, well before Schengen so the impact of mass migration has long been known and yet Schengen encouraged just that type of migration.
For one example apart from the obvious since the introduction of an open border policy; Poland has seen their country almost torn apart by the influx of workers not only from Ukraine but recently from Nepal, Bangladesh and India. This has led not only to an anti-immigrant hardline stance in Poland but it is responsible for Poland's populist government's judicial reforms being at odds with the EU.
That of course is just one of the EU's many ongoing ............ disagreements.
This particular one might well come to a head soon since it seems that the EU's sneakiness means that together with Hungary, Poland could well see a loss in funding for not obeying the EU.
It will be interesting watching this disagreement develop further, as it most certainly will.
