Olives & Buttermilk

These are two food items I cannot bear!
Have you ever wanted to like something but just couldn't?
Buttermilk sounds yummy but I tried it once & almost p****!
Sorry, same with olives. I know they're good for you. My mom used to say if you ate a certain # of them, the saying is "you'll then love them".

No no no! Keep away.

Could someone please describe the wonderful charm of the taste of these two items?

Re: Olives & Buttermilk

AC Buttermilk is used mostly in cooking, not for drinking.

Olives are lovely. Reminds me of tea last night. Out with a Group of friends at a Greek Restaurant last night, meal came and a bowl went round the table, they all put their Olives in the bowl and handed it to me. I ended up with 18 olives to eat. YUM YUM

My daughter who never ate olives, she hated them but has now grown to like them.

I don't know about buttermilk but there was a time I couldn't stand olives but now I love them.

Re: Olives & Buttermilk

Sandi - in Ireland buttermilk is/was used as a drink. As children we had to drink a glass of it everyday before breakfast. I still don't like it!!

Olives are lovely. There is a stall in the town market on Saturdays sells olives stuffed with various delicious things such as Almonds, Peppers or Garlic. All wonderful.

Re: Olives & Buttermilk

Not quite sure what buttermilk is - what part of milk is it? My mum was Italian and used to drizzle olive oil all over most food and I hated it. Now I love the oil and the black olives (don't like the green ones much) so your tastes do change over the years.

Buttermilk is lovely cooked in scones but not something I would drink. Olives however are the devil's food and peppers are almost as bad although I can see the appeal the do at least look edible.

It is (or was ) the liquid left over from butter making.

Re: Olives & Buttermilk

I have tried many times to acquire a taste for olives but I canīt, they are quite revolting, likewise peppers, red, green or yellow, I canīt stand the taste. I do use both olives and peppers frequently as Mr Clumsy likes them very much and visitors always seem to like them too. Iīve never tasted buttermilk but Iīm quite sure I wouldnīt like it. The German population here seem to use it frequently, presumably in cooking. It certainly goes very quickly off the shelf in our local supermarket which caters for just about every nationality.

Re: Olives & Buttermilk

I use buttermilk in scones and some bread but wouldn't like to drink it.

I quite like some olives particularly the dark Kalamata olives
and I love tapenade on hot toast.

My grandchildren (aged 3 and 4) love olives they also like wasabi peas and other unchildlike things.
