B&B Owner Loses Gay Bias Challenge

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/b-b-owner-l...5.html#1iQ4wq3

Part of this does not sit easy with me. Whilst I agree that homosexuals should not suffer discrimination, I struggle with the notion that a B&B owner cannot refuse entry to those they choose not to have under their roof. I'm all for rights but not when someone else has to sacrifice theirs.

I have 3 empty bedrooms and have often thought of renting them out but have been put off by what I might have to endure from tenants so decided not to rent the rooms out and keep my sanity! Why do things have to get so messy

Any thoughts on a way around this one?

Re: B&B Owner Loses Gay Bias Challenge

I saw the programme on this B&B owner and her guests. She was polite with them, but as usual thats not good enough. I know she has turned her home into a business, but its still her home. I really do think these men should have been more understanding and should not have taken issue with it

I agree with you ladies entirely, but they only refused to let them sleep together, and not from their home.
I think the gays set them up for a fall.

Re: B&B Owner Loses Gay Bias Challenge

We discussed this matter at length here on the forum at the time. Since the B&B is their 'business' it ceases to be exclusive of their home, but must, since it is a business comply with ALL the laws pertaining thereto, and since discrimination against the gay community is illegal, what this couple did in refusing the gay couple to sleep in the same room or same bed, contravenes that law and they deserve everything they get from the law for doing so.

It's hard on the BB owners but their home has become a business they have to obey all laws and cannot discriminate.

I would be interested to see what happens on campsites these days as even as little as 5 years ago it was quite common for same sex couples and groups to be turned away. No discrimination was meant by it but they were trying to keep out stag and hen dos and similar.

It may be the law - but the gay community jump on these incidences at 'every' opportunity ... which does irritate me - I wonder if they will 'ever' be satisfied with their lot ....

I thought businesses had the right to refuse to trade with anyone they didn't want to - or has that been changed?

Not if the reason for refusal is discrimination as in the instant case.
