Tax for sanitary products to be scrapped

Levy will be abolished in the budget, starting next year. EU rules classed them as 'luxury' non-essentials. Yet another example of the stupidity and greed.

Have donated items, they need all the basics.

No doubt these items will be another that will be flying off the shelves in the current 'panic buying' we are seeing!

Victory for those who have campaigned long and hard for this.

Our local supermarket is low on a lot of women's personal hygiene products, could be panic buying. Asked assistant and was told it was a distribution problem.. most comes from EU.

Apparently proceeds of the tax went to various charities so their future is now at risk as it used to raise £62m. I think they should have retained the tax and spent money to pay for free supplies for those in sanitary poverty.

Menstrual hygiene is vital for health, this tax is unfair, women have no other choice. Plenty of other products could be taxed but are not. Condoms for starters.

Another humiliation, no doubt having to make a claim to prove their entitlement to recieve free supplies.

Hi

The Benefit is Minimal, less than a £1 a week for those affected.

The Government used the proceeds to help those who could not afford them.

They have not committed to pay the same to those most in need.

Re: Tax for sanitary products to be scrapped

I was reading yesterday that removal of this tax will also move many women and girls out of period poverty. That would be fine, BUT the 5% VAT charged on a packet of tampons is ~ 7p. How in heck is a 7p/packet saving going to lift peeps out of period poverty?
