Re: Britain's Favourite Dogs

When we went to our local RSPCA to choose a rescue dog, we were so amazed that probably as much as 90% of the dogs in that particular kennel were Staffordshire Bull Terriers ! It does beg the question, why so many of one breed ?

I personally would not have a Staffy - my oldest brother had a Staffy and it was the most unpredictable fur-lined jaw of sharp teeth I have ever met ! We chose a gorgeous cross bred Alsatian/collie, which has turned out to be a very bright, quick learner, very loyal and protective - protective with no training to be like that, just something that she has taken upon herself, to watch out for her 'forever family'.

I did notice that the favourite dog turned out to be the 'mongrel' or the 'cross breed'. Possibly because many of them are 'rescue' dogs like ours, and it is fairly common knowledge that the 'cross breed' dog is probably healthier and will mix in with a family better because they have a more amiable nature.

A breed so often thought to be nasty. I knew one and he was just putty if one knew where to scritch.

Re: Britain's Favourite Dogs

My favourite breed is the Old English Sheepdog, had them all my life and my parents before me. Sadly though they are now on the endangered breed list, a heck of a lot of work owning one, never mind the clan I had.

A lab would be my first choice if I had a bigger home. Sadly I must go for a small breed.

I loved George. Would have taken him in instantly.
