Bargain !

If you can afford the initial outlay Tesco have whole salmon at the moment half price, just cut one up and it has worked out at 50p for a decent sized portion ! So have frozen the portions and will make some nice cheap meals for a while.

Re: Bargain !

Funny thing is I love tinned salmon in a sandwich, or even with new pots and parsley sauce, but for some reason fresh salmon is just too rich for my taste.

However I too got a bargain, another of their half price offers, a lovely piece of roasting rump, which appears to be solid meat with the barest amount of fat for under £8 too. So Sunday dinner of course, roasties, yorkshires, roast parsnip and other assorted veggies. Problem is that with my gannet of a son, the chances of it lasting past monday and maybe even tuesday are pretty slim. One day with bubble and squeak and one with chips, then sandwiches. Although might pull a fast one, make extra gravy and put some slices with gravy into the freezer. Hmm? sounds like a plan.

Julie - I have only ever had salmon from a can to make sandwiches.
Now, I am tempted as a lunch, to try some salmon steaks, do I fry - or roast these ......

We had salmon steaks for dinner today Patsy , I sprinkle some all purpose seasoning on them, wrap them loosely in foil and bake in the over for approx 25mins. Yum!

I've never cooked salmon either and the only canned brand I really like is Cucumber from Home bargains but I might give it a whirl!

Re: Bargain !

Salmon is really easy to cook, we either fry it skin side down to begin then turn over just to finish off, steam it in paper parcels, roast in the oven in foil. Also it adds to fish pies nicely cooked in milk makes the sauce lovely.

The skin we save after eating the meal and put in the oven to dry out then slice it up for dog treats - they love it !
