You could well be right about big city life, mind you i aim for anonymity when im out but thats by choice. Not the same if its foisted upon you.
On the other side being noticed locally can have its disadvantages as well, with all the curtain twitchers near where i live. my mother tried to teach me using hands, "Now you see me, now you dont" does not work.

Remaining anonymous is a valid point. One needs to only see how being popular can lead to the paparazzi following you around all the time.
