He's being very naughty and trying to besmirch my good character, Art. It is because he made ungentlemanly advances and was given a good clip round the ear.
THAT is the reason he is saying such things.
Having someone say "ah bless" as a response to some remark of mine makes me want to clock 'em one. It's the most patronising comment, as if I'm unbearably cute and dotty and worthy of tolerant amusement.
More and more people, especially women, young and old say, 'Bless You' after you have made some comment or they feel you need a sympathetic answer!
At one time, you only ever heard, 'Bless You' after you sneezed or if you were at church!
I bet some of those who say, 'Bless You' in their condescending way, are atheists and haven't been to church for years!
Have you noticed how 'Bless You' is creeping more and more into everyday conversation?
Maybe, you use it a lot yourself?!!
Around the mid nineties, 'Bless' was said in a sort of jokey patronising way. If you got something wrong, someone would say 'Bless' inferring you were a bit senile.
