Re: Anyone got tinnitus?
I've just found this thread and its really informative. I've had tinnitus for about 3 years and I'm always glad to read about new things being tried out.
I don't recall being exposed to particularly loud noise so I'm not sure what the source of it will be but I do know I've been referred to hospital and more or less told I just have to learn to live with it. I have reduced hearing and one ear is worse than the other but the tinnitus is in both. Its about 5 times louder in the 'deaf' ear which is strange. My hearing is deteriorating and if it gets much worse I'll have to consider a hearing aid but as far as I'm aware that doesn't make much difference to the tinnitus.
Most of the time I can ignore it but silence seriously increases the volume so I try to avoid that at all costs. Sleeping at night is not a problem as I tend to focus on the noise and that sends me to sleep. I think this practice depends on the type of noise it is and the volume of it.
I always feel thankful that this only happened now and not when I was younger. I think it must be really hard on young people who have the rest of their lives to go through with this racket going on all day every day. Its mind blowing. But I feel at this stage in my life, it is much easier to deal with as I have a lot more patience and a completely different outlook on life.
I feel that by the the time we reach a certain age, we just learn to accept what life throws at us and deal with it the best way we can and that's about all you can do with tinnitus at the moment. I hope the experts come up with a solution to this in the near future because its not a very nice thing to have to live with every day of your life.
