No mention of family who might be able to help. During the interview he said he would have lay on the floor rather than block the bed. He was admitted originally for a mental health problem. He wants to live independently, and not rely on benefits.

And living in a hospital bed is living independently and not relying on benefits, is it?

Re: How about this for bed blocking!

From what I've read he was admitted in 2014 after suffering a stroke ... and now insists he wanted to leave and the hospital stopped him

I think a clue might lie in the fact that he has a council flat and was trying to get himself 'wheelchair friendly' accommodation and an appointment with a spinal specialist in London.

Give it a couple of days and some soft twit will start a Go Fund Me page for him.

I may be reading this all wrong but he is paralysed and expected to go home alone to a flat that had no wheelchair access ? How would that work ?

Just think the hospital let this unfortunate situation get way out of hand, more to this than is being reported. Patient confidentiality.

No idea Julie but the hospital did say this ...
Anna Hills, the hospital's director of governance, said Mr Guedes had "repeatedly refused all offers of appropriate accommodation organised by our local authority and social care partners, despite being fit for discharge".

I think the amazing thing in all this is the 2 year period.

It's not patient confidentiality any more as he has named himself and announced he is on hunger strike. While he was in hospital they didn't name him due to patient confidentiality. They just said he was Portuguese and lived in Suffolk.

He is 63, paralyzed from the chest, now living in flat. News reporter who interviewed him says he sat outside for hours before being persuaded to go in from the cold, and in studio claimed "he was difficult". His mental condition looks to be the problem.
