Re: Diesel Car issues - but not Trucks/Lorries/Buses!
You've got that right, especially double-deckers pumping out their sooty filth. The double-deckers run around practically empty where I am so in my opinion they should get rid of them in favour of something like a Turkish Dolmus - smaller and less polluting. Getting traffic to flow through towns and cities easier would also reduce the pollution from stationary traffic. Vehicles only work at their optimum efficiency when travelling in a high gear, not stuck in second and third. This could be achieved by getting rid of bus lanes or restricting them to certain times, this would open up extra lanes for traffic. Having permanent bus lanes 24/7 and having cameras to penalise cars if they wander in to them only add to the congestion.Re: Diesel Car issues - but not Trucks/Lorries/Buses!
It's all borax, petrol vehicles chuck out just as much pollution as diesels. The government don't like people to save money, it's not doing anybody any good laying dormant, they want you to put it back into the economy by spending it thereby providing more jobs. So they come up with inventive ways of getting you to part with it. First by telling you that Diesel vehicles are better for the environment, and now by telling you they are not.Re: Diesel Car issues - but not Trucks/Lorries/Buses!
Diesel engines above a certain size (3 litres ?), as fitted in many commercial vehicles, are legally required to have more complex exhaust systems and so the nitrogen oxides (NOx) are removed. The way it works is that the vehicle carries supplies of a liquid called "AdBlue" which is sprayed in to the exhaust system and reacts with the NOx to break it down. There's no reason why it couldn't be used on future cars, but you couldn't retro-fit it.Re: Diesel Car issues - but not Trucks/Lorries/Buses!
this is doubtless part of some bizarre conspiracy to get us all using electric cars. I can't believe they can get away with doing this to drivers who bought cars in good faith on the advice of the government.Re: Diesel Car issues - but not Trucks/Lorries/Buses!
We can't hit the heavy commercial vehicles....the cost to haulage would cripple the country.Re: Diesel Car issues - but not Trucks/Lorries/Buses!
While it's always fun to knock the Government, you'd have to say that some car manufacturers were totally unscrupulous in devising methods to enable their small diesel engines to cheat their way through emission tests, particularly when it comes to NOx levels. IIRC, the first time this came to light was a couple of years ago when one American test lab simply refused to accept the results that the VW company was claiming. On further investigation, they found the cheating software that enabled the cars to get through the test, but put out very different exhaust fumes when actually on the road.Re: Diesel Car issues - but not Trucks/Lorries/Buses!
