Have you tried it, Swimmy? I just do mine in an egg poacher - designed for the job - and they are perfect each time.
I did buy one of those little silicone poaching pod thingys that 'Lakeland' make - but - I have a cat with a silicone fetish who was very grateful for his new toy - haven't seen it since!!
The secret to good poached eggs is the eggs must be really fresh or the white 'spreads' in the pan.
Break the egg into a cup,
..bring a pan of water to simmering,
..swirl the water with a fork to create a vortex effect,
..now slide the egg into the middle and cook.
Remove the egg with a slotted spoon and drain briefly on a piece of kitchen roll.
