I've had mine around 8 years and it looks brand new but I use it often. It's so handy for opening parcels, cutting off price tickets etc.
I just have a basic red one without the scissors. It has a blade, bottle opener/tin opener, corkscrew, tweezers and a toothpick which is still intact. It's amazing how long they last. I know someone with a Leatherman but, to me, they're ugly.

We used to have one, but I have no idea what happened to it.
I still have one around but now have a Leatherman multitool that I keep in the car that is much easier to open and use. It has saved my bacon more than once.
Better than a Swiss Army knife or a multitool is a man with a hammer, a screwdriver, and a wrench close by, but that never seems to be the case when something goes amiss .

I've got a couple of SA "Camper" pocket knives (one old, one new):
I have had a Leatherman Wave for about 20 years.
An extremely well made piece of kit. It has had hard work but still functions perfectly.
Ok it ain't pretty.

I went through my Swiss Army Knife period back in my teens but soon realised there are better tools for the job ... other than the one for removing a stone from a horses foot ... but maybe I could improvise. should the need arise.
