Not exactly a Volte Face but a slow changing of mind.

Its beginning to look like Brexit is for the wealthy few. Certainly not for hard working many. Beginning to think we have been conned.

Maybe someone can explain how less regulation in food is good for British consumers and good quality British farmers?

How is it better for us to trade with USA 3000 miles away than EU 22 miles away??

Because the Americans can send us all their crap food which doesn't currently meet EU standards.

And pollute the air and sea as they ship their crap over here.

Any other benefits?

If you mean chlorinated chicken it does meet the standards of the EU. Its approved by the EFHA

Re: Trying to get the Irish on same page

Personally I always wash my salads first because often I can smell the chlorine and pesticides and need to wash it off. Regarding USA chickens, its not just chlorinated. It is hormone injected, force fed, factory farmed in cruel, noisy, artificially lit warehouses with about 12 chickens per square yard. The conditions are absolutely horrendous and by the time its been shipped across 3000 miles it really will be crap.

If American food is OK with the EU why do you suppose the US want us to lower our standards for a trade deal?

Personally no I don't want cheaper food from USA. Just take a close look at your average mid to low income American. They are overweight/obese, more stressed, less holidays and die younger than anywhere in the EU.

The EFHA say that the chlorination process is safe but the concern is that chlorination is required as there is no requirement for any proper hygiene standards to be maintained throughout the slaughter process.

So we would need to lower our slaughterhouse hygiene standards

Its bollcks.

It was the EU that forced hundreds of our slaughter houses to close by insisting on EU vets being present to supervise the slaughter process .it became unaffordable so now we have our animals being trucked hundreds of miles on motorways where they are could distressed and frightened, to the nearest slaughter house all in the name of so called animal health.

It's just another non tariff barrier to protect their EU farmers by not having imported chlorinated chicken.

There is no evidence that animal welfare is at risk at all by doing so ... it's a complete myth.

Re: Trying to get the Irish on same page

So are you saying you would prefer to have chlorinated chicken from USA than from UK/EU if it is cheaper?

Anyway here is a typical USA chicken farm/factory...

Yes they really are good at keeping the price down. I wonder how much we can trust them?

Not sure about the farm being shown being typical, but that clip has turned me off chicken, poor little bug----. I wouldn't even treat a brexiter like that.
