Coronavirus: PM postpones lockdown easing in England

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53609467

The further easing of coronavirus restrictions in England - due to come in this weekend - has been postponed for at least two weeks, amid concerns over an increase in coronavirus cases.

Casinos and bowling alleys will remain shut, with Boris Johnson saying it was time to "squeeze the brake pedal".

Wedding receptions of up to 30 people were meant to be allowed as part of the changes but cannot yet happen.

Face coverings will be mandatory in more indoor settings, such as cinemas.

And people attending places of worship will also be among those required to wear face coverings, in a change that will be applied from next weekend.

The rethink follows new restrictions for people in parts of northern England, after a spike in virus cases.

The prime minister said the rules for face coverings would become enforceable in law from 8 August.

Coronavirus: Visiting people at home banned in parts of northern England

Millions of people in parts of northern England are now facing new restrictions, banning separate households from meeting each other at home after a spike in Covid-19 cases.

The rules impact people in Greater Manchester, east Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire.

The health secretary told the BBC the increase in transmission was due to people visiting friends and relatives.

The new lockdown rules, which came into force at midnight, mean people from different households will not be allowed to meet in homes or private gardens.

They also ban members of two different households from mixing in pubs and restaurants, although individual households will still be able to visit such hospitality venues.
Some people, patently, failed to adjust to the "new" normality and thought the pandemic was all over …..

Are they going to be restricted in how far they can travel?
If not then they're just going to go out of their areas to mingle. Possibly go to tourist spots like here!

You can bet your life that no such restrictions will apply to those celebrating Eid. They will totally ignore the restrictions like they have been doing all the time when crammed into mosques for Friday prayer. And people wonder why there is an increase in Covid-19 cases up here and elsewhere in Northern towns and cities?

Re: Coronavirus: PM postpones lockdown easing in England

I was watering plants in my back garden just now, the chap next door to the house that is behind mine was sat outside coughing and coughing non stop! They had visitors long before Lockdown finished and ever since, I could hear them in the garden.
I don't think he was at work today as usually their dog barks non stop, it can go out through a flap, it barks at every little noise.

I'm wondering if people are obliged to tell the NHS if they have the virus?
I just read that we only have 2 cases here.

The current advice is:

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...is%20worsening.

The most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:
  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, COVID-19 will be a mild illness. However, if you have any of the symptoms above you must stay at home and arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19.
There's more detail on the page.

People don’t wonder they don’t like to say so for fear of being called racist .

There's no way of knowing how many secret cases there are because many do not want to be forced to stay home and isolate.

They bring in all these new rules like mask wearing and then don't put in any mechanisms to police this. So why would people who don't want to wear a mask comply? How can you tell who is not wearing one because they have a condition or who is wearing one because they stick two fingers up at their fellow citizens?

I went to tesco at the weekend because of the changes in mask wearing. I had to go to the post office there as was desperate to return some unwanted purchases. So you think let's go buy groceries, people are wearing masks.... except a) not everyone is, b) staff are not policing anything, c) they don't seem to have any one way systems or anything, d) they are not maintaining distance in queues. Some people think a mask is a fashion accessory to be worn under their chin, under their nose etc. It's fascinating to study the human psychology.

So at the weekend I queued up because people were behaving but the other day when I had to go back to the post office I did not buy anything. If tesco can't be bothered to make sure customers are safe they can get stuffed. I'm not interested in standing like a sardine ready for tinning. This bug is not going away and last weekend was probably the safest time but going forward I'd say be careful!

Boris walk the walk rather than just waffle about lockdown in name only! Put some blinkin' processes in place to police this - fine people! Humiliate them for not distancing or wearing a mask. It's ridiculous, we will be stuck in the revolving door forever at this rate just because of being sloppy and lacking in gumption.
