Re: Coronavirus: Second wave of Covid-19 coming to UK, says PM

We've had the briefing from Professor Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance, who are advisers, but it is up to the government to decide what to do next.

Apparently, Boris Johnson will make a statement in the House of Commons on Tuesday about the coronavirus pandemic.

Covid lockdown for Newport, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Blaenau Gwent

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-54234993

People will not be able to enter or leave the areas concerned without a reasonable excuse, including to work if you cannot do so from home. Licensed premises like pubs will need to shut by 23:00 every night, with that rule also extended to Caerphilly.

The new measures affect 431,000 people, bringing more than 850,000 in Wales under local lockdown.

What on earth is the big attraction of toilet rolls?

Do they somehow protect against Covid-19?
If so, how? Do you wind them around your head like a face mask, perhaps?

Hi

Cases are rising again, blaming the public is a distraction plan.

Test and Trace is still a disaster and that is not down to the public.

I may be talking out of my arse here (admittedly I do that from time to time) but bearing in mind that there is an enormous range of severity (or otherwise) of coronavirus infection, how important are the figures for the number of infections - so far 398,625? That's 398,625 out of a total population of 65,000.000, or 4 out of 650.

To put it another way, how many of these people are showing any effects at all, other than a sign in their blood test (presumably) that they are infected?

Yes, I accept that if someone is infected, they have the potential to pass it on to someone else, but I don't know for certain how likely this is to happen. Surely, that would be influenced by how well such people isolate or even behave sensibly.

How on earth "Incompetent" Harding is keeping her job is beyond me - her disastrous lack of control has had far worse implications than I ever forecast .....

I suggest that, if you want to avoid opinion and speculation, you consult an authorative source for figures, such as:

https://www.england.nhs.uk/coronavir...bout-covid-19/

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulat...onsanddiseases

Just getting tested is complicated:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavi...getting-tested
Coronavirus (COVID-19): getting tested

Guidance on coronavirus testing, including who is eligible for a test and how to get tested.

The results will, obviously, be skewed by selection - the ONS random survey and tests will, probably, give a more accurate nationwide picure.

Mr Hancock announced, in the House of Commons that stronger restrictions would be brought in from Tuesday in parts of Lancashire, Merseyside and Warrington.

The health secretary said there would be restrictions on hospitality and socialising, including hospitality venues closing from 22:00.

I don't see the point of curfews, people will just go out earlier and drink more.
