Re: Fossil Fuel ending.

There have been warnings to the point of scare campaigns that oil etc is running out since the 1960s. I wonder if we will actually stop using it before it does.

Naturally Australia is out of step with the rest of the world, there was our poor old PM, Scotty from Marketing, extolling the virtues of our gas led economic recovery. He said gas will play a vital role in Australia's renewable energy future (??)

Natural gas is a fossil fuel. As for oil, of course it's use as a fuel will end and a good thing too. Quite apart from anything else it is far too valuable as a raw material to be just burned.

ok what about farmers and fields? electric combione harvesters? I don't think so let alone all the other farm tools like tractors etc.

GO green NO not totally. electric cars wot a load of cobblers not enough range let alone plug in places .

I do wonder were these total idiots get their ideas from. It is about time sensible people told these environmentally friendly people where to go
Yes, I completely agree.

And the most annoying thing is that, despite all these limitations 'we' are imposing on ourselves, we will make absolutely no practical difference to things on a world scale, as many have pointed out citing China, India, America and others. Even our fellow 'EU friends', Germany for example, still mine and burn coal.

Still, as long as the eco-warriors are made to feel better about themselves, what does it matter?

Lot better now who remembers smog? Back then you had a job to see your extended hand. Cars following rear lights of the car ahead and finishing up on their driveway, i kid you not.

Re: Fossil Fuel ending.

Where is all this electricity going to come from?

Am all for electric cars, providing that they are affordable to buy. But the eleccy needed to charge them has yet to be created, and there are no obvious plans to create the power plants to generate it. Bear in mind that houses will also rely on electricity to heat them too.

Also, where is the infrastructure for charging cars? Are we going to see a huge spider web of extention leads dangling across pavements and down from high rise flats, while all pavements are being dug up with the aim of having some kind of charging point available every few metres apart? Where is the copper going to come from for the cabling for this??

There are around 40 million cars in the UK. Presumably the idea is that all of these will be replaced over the next few decades. No matter how you look at it, that's a lot of charging points that will need installing, and a lot of electricity needed to power them up.

If they can convert every gas appliance in the country in one day when they went from coal gas to LNG then providing infrastructure for electric cars should be a piece of piss.
