But the energy in kWh is about one thirtieth for a kettle. Not a lot.
The other problem with electric kettles is that they have made them deliberately switch off when the water isn't as hot as I'd like. Seems to be 80 degrees in some cases. I'm sure this is some sneaky way to make us help the environment but all it does is make you have to boil more water when the tea is cold. Apparently the boiling point of water also varies depending on your altitude. So with a stove top kettle you have more control over the temperature.
