Zero Covid

Australia is starting to discuss whether we can maintain the current policy of zero covid or whether we have to accept that the borders will have to open and covid will become endemic.

The Federal Government has already said the International borders will not open until the middle of next year and the states are still closing borders to outbreaks in neighbours.

NSW is looking at 80% vaccinations before they are happy to open the borders but even this is troubled by the new strains of covid. We have this problem that the lack of covid in the community has make individuals complacent and there is no rush to get vaccinated.

It is interesting that the countries that handed covid the worse have handed the vaccination program the best and vice versa.

Covid will come back when the borders open that is a given but are people ready to accept that?

Re: Zero Covid

Bruce, it will be years before we here, in UK, are free of Covid, just like Flu, it will probably be around for ever.

That is true but we can't expect all visitors to spend a fortnight in quarantine at $3000 per person.

Currently NSW is trying to get foreign students back, they have to spend the time in quarantine and the Unis will bring in 250 students a fortnight, once they arrive they will have to stay for a long period as there are few flights out.

This plan has yet to be approved by the Federal government.

PM Scotty from Marketing stopped off in Singapore to discuss a travel "bubble" with them even though it relies on vaccination in the two countries and is a long way off.

At some time the borders have to be opened but it is looking a long way off before visitors from Europe and the US will be allowed to enter the country.
