Your typical blind-testing of a large group, half taking a placebo and half the 'real thing'.
'Before and after' x-rays and athroscopies, tissue tests etc etc etc.
End result ?
Absolutely
NO difference between those on the Gluco-stuff and those on the fake.
Yep this appears to be the case but there also appears to be an exception which is the "Rotta" Glucosamine.
The first port of call for anyone looking to research any specific medication should be THE COCHRANE LIBRARY which is a huge database of fully controlled studies.
Cochrane is internationally respected and actually sets the testing protocols used by the medical industry to ensure that tests are fair and effective. Where tests have been specifically sponsored (paid for) by companies, Cochrane's testing protocols identify this.
On the subject of Glucosamine (for osteoarthritis) the Cochrane Library contains the results of 25 studies with 4963 patients. Read it here:
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/1...2946.pub2/full
The test conclusions in summary were as stated follows:
"Pooled results from studies using a non-Rotta preparation or adequate allocation concealment failed to show benefit in pain and WOMAC function while those studies evaluating the Rotta preparation showed that glucosamine was superior to placebo in the treatment of pain and functional impairment resulting from symptomatic OA."
The Cochrane Library is an invaluable resource.
