Especially with 19 years' service!
Stranger things have happened no doubt! Something similar happened to me in that I had given in my notice as I had found a better job – the day after I left that company folded! I thought it unusual that my notice was requested in writing, usually it was verbal, just two-weeks' notice.
Alright I had another job but I missed out on the government redundancy payment. That was only one out of four redundancies in my working life but it does go to show what can happen.
That was a stroke of luck, Baz. I have a mate like that who got made redundant from BAE about 15 years ago and got a very large lump sum payout. Three days later he landed a good job at a local manufacturer who were virtually on his doorstep. He stayed there until he retired.
he spent all his redundancy and a lot of his retirement package on a very nice apartment which he has in Scarborough. He gets his money back by letting it to friends and family.
Despite the pitfalls of my current company, they are actually expanding, though there are some serious problems with the management. I doubt it very much if I would be made redundant though, and can't wait around on nights for ever just to see if that would happen. Nope, time to move I think

Thank you, Aerolor. We shall see what happens tomorrow when we have a chat.
