No need for explanations for sudden spasms of madness on this thread, I thought it was a regular occurrence here.
Explanations for the strange always remind me of the bishop on the boys confirmation day. He always asks a religious question of each boy before he gives the blessing, he asks one boy to explain the mystery of the holy trinity, three divine persons in the one God, the boy mumbles something inaudible and the bishop says “Speak up boy, I don’t understand!” The boy looks up at him and says in a clear voice “Your not supposed to understand your grace, it’s a mystery”
I find it a contentment in knowing that there are so many things we don’t understand, perhaps until the time we are ready to accept them, take the mystery out of life and it’s not much fun anymore.
Yes Gummy, the flour was always in Uncle Dave’s hair I was told, he had six kids and his wages were terrible, it was his way of nicking flour from the bakery and getting it home, he often had enough to make half a dozen pancakes when he’d comb it all out.
I do hope your not having pancakes for breakfast, hate to put you off, just saying by way of explanation.
How flour came to my mind was I was watching an old black and white film yesterday and Michael Redgrave had to age as the film progressed, it looked so obvious they put flour or chalk into his hair to make him look a whitey grey, more and more of it as he got older, wonder what they really used for that trick?
I remember a rhyme that went “She was the belle of New York. She powdered her gearbox with chalk” I forget the rest, I believe gearbox was slang for the face in theatrical circles.
I hope you are all happy and in good humour today, I am, bit of a hangover but that's a small price to pay for having a great night last night.
