Population density is obviously a factor.
I don't doubt it but more likely to do with total population. For example, Australia, for all its size is the most urbanised country on the planet with the majority of its population living in just 5 cities.

USA 250 million
UK 60 million
Australia 25 million

Those figures are from memory but roughly right.

I shouldn't bother putting it back on. It's pointless, unless you're apt to cough all over your immediate neighbours!
