In most of the rich world, the state’s share of the economy has grown sharply in recent years. Regulations—excessive, as well as necessary—are tying up the private sector.'

I didn't take much interest in politics until I'd reached around 40 years of age, until then, I pretty much took on board what my parents said and they loathed Thatcher with a vengeance; she could have had the Midas touch and they would still have detested her.

Reading up on her and watching several documentaries, over the years I have changed my mind about her and now, I can't help but admire the woman. For Labour and Liberal moaning and complaining about her actions, neither of them has reversed one single thing she did - curious.

From what I understand, every time Labour has been in power they have left country on its knees.

Whilst I agree that you are a very special case Arthur, the point of my post was that greed is not the sole preserve of any particular party or class, or do you think socialists don't suffer from that particular malaise at all ?

No Barry, not to the same extent or degree since those of us to the political 'left' believe in society (as opposed to Thatcher - phth, phth, phth) an d sharing out amongst us that which we have. For instance a very interesting statistic - it is the 'poor' in our society who are the biggest contributors to charity - interesting isn't it???

Get over it Uncle Joe you drag out these sentiments every opportunity but the truth is we will never abolish the monarchy and as to a president come now get a grip. Name me one country which is doing so much better because it has a president and a senate. Presidents are impotent when deciding to make changes.

All we need is a decent government. We need UKIP to tell us what it will do in other areas apart from stopping immigration or at least slowing it down and then maybe I will vote for them.. What you believe our queen has to do with government goodness only knows she is a figure head and I for one believe she is a good one. We need a revolution yes but against evil bankers, members of parliament and a corrupt police force not against a queen and her family who work hard for our country.

Also interesting that most of the MPs jailed over their expenses fraud were Labour...

Really Cate darlin??? - if that were so - then why would the Government (as they have just done) awarded Mrs Windsor (the most wealthiest woman in Western Europe) a pay rise of a further £5million (of OUR money???

Name me one country which is doing so much better because it has a president and a senate. How about Germany??? - Prior to WW1 - it too had a monarchy - Kaiser Bill - they held a revolution in 1918, and did away with their Aristocracy. Austria also did away with their Aristocracy after WW1 too and they seem to be doing alright. There arev a number of other European nations who have also done away with their aristocracy who seem to be doing very well without them.

Wrong Barry, there was one Tory MP and a Tory peer who were also 'banged up' for fraud. Then of course going a little way back in history there was Jeffrey Archer - another Tory MP 'banged up' for fraud. Then there was Aitken - who served time for taking back-handers and then lying about it.

A Chancellor is not a President, Mrs President only has only control of certain parts of the German economy. It's debt ratio is higher than ours an it can't control it's own interest rates because they are governed by the European Central Bank. It only keeps it's triple A rating because both the rating agencies realise it is the central lone master for the Central European Bank. As far as doing better than Britain when Greece, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus and Ireland default on their loans the German tax payer gets a hike in their tax rates and a drop in their standard of living.

Don't get me started on Austria we were there when they told us how much money they had paid out for their transalpine railway system, only to be told by the EU that they could not operate it because it breached EU state support regulations.

Now give me one single example how the monarchy has any influence on a single economic policy in Britain and don't go on about her wage drop in real terms. She now pays for the running of Windsor Castle out of her own savings.

Sorry I can't resist this comment.

I reckon old Satan hasn't recovered from the handbagging, he received on MT's arrival and she is now in charge of the place. I reckon there will be a few changes. I wonder if there are unions in hell? In which case I predict an all out strike of the lake of fire stokers!
