Some older men still doff their hat when they meet me in the street. That is so sweet and nice but very old fashioned!

I have a friend called John the Hat who's ? around 50

That's a thought. That would explain why not many doff hats anymore.

It might not have quite the same effect doffing a peaked cap which was worn back to front as they do.

I suppose it would be a Trilby type hat that, that age group wear?!!

Edit.. I just looked at JTH and that seems to be a straw hat! The one I meant is more tweedy!

No, the ones that doff their hats or touch the brim of their caps are usually elderly- ish !! You know, from a time when proper gentlemen existed!!
