Umm...I'd have thought me being on guard for NINE HOURS,alone,ignored,friendless,chilled in body,heart and mind,yet still standing guard protecting you ungrateful girdle-pingers,would at least warrant a thank you....but what do I get? Us ladies don't get praised for doing our shifts, so why should you? Typical bloke!
And the reason why you are alone all night, is because we're all in bed and asleep, so we are refreshed to begin battle the next day. So if I were you - I'd go to bed, cos they don't pay any extra for the night shift ya know!
