Re: Over 50s Club Manchester/Cheshire

Ooh this is good - looks like a few of us will be going on the big wheel. Yes Sabrina - before the meal!! LOL

I'm not coming by train now. It's too much hassle with two changes and very expensive. I'm coming by bus. The Trans Peak bus will take me straight to Manchester central coach station. I hope this is still near to the wheel & the city centre.

Have we set a date then? Shall we say September 19th?

Hi Carol ... your bus will go into Chorlton Street which is close to the big wheel so not far to walk.

I imagine it will take you a long time by bus ... have you tried split ticketing by train ... say from where you live to Buxton ... then Buxton to Manchester or even bus to Buxton .. train to Manchester, etc. I don't like the idea of you having such a long journey Then it's the problem of you getting home.

If Buxton is better for you (but no big wheel ) perhaps we should ask for a show of hands to see what everyone thinks

19th September is fine by me ....

It's fine - I don't mind the bus ride. The Trans Peak takes 2 hrs 10 mins. The train won't be that much shorter with all the changes - and then there's the cost! I just priced a train ticket up & it was £50 return. I'm not bothering!!
I'd rather use my free bus pass. I've never been to Manchester and would like to see the city. Perhaps nearer to the time we can exchange mobile phone numbers in case I get lost when I get off the bus.

£50 return !!!!! Where do you live ... London

From Buxton you can buy a Wayfarer ticket for £6 giving you a return to Manchester .... I've just checked and the journey time is about an hour so you're right not any quicker by train.

Just hope you're not disappointed with Manchester ... not that wonderful but some good museums, etc. but we won't have time for any culture

Don't worry ... ask CC ... I'm like a mother hen !!!

Just popping in to say hello girls. Carol you can catch a free bus which will take you near to "the wheel" from either the bus or train station.

Re: Over 50s Club Manchester/Cheshire

Good morning everybody..
Thanks Venus that's good to know but hopefully by then I will be walking well.
I've printed the Trans Peak timetable off and there are buses to suit me both to Manchester and from Manchester. Mind you - if I miss the 4.00pm one home I will have to wait till 7.00pm for the next one!
If we're all agreed on Sept 19th perhaps it might be a good idea to put our names down who's going?

I'm going to catch the one that gets in at 10.55. This will give us lots of time to go on the wheel & do other things.
The next one is 12.45 and that would be a bit too late I think.

Checked my calendar and 19th looks OK for me. I'll get same train as Myrtle so will arrive together.
