Oscar Pistorius' sister thanks judge

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/pe...-a7130531.html

Aimee Pistorius has thanked a judge after her brother was returned to jail for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

“The thing I'm most grateful and the thing I really appreciate is the emphasis she made to distinguish a difference between the facts and the truth in terms of this is not a gender-based violence situation," she said.

“It's a terrible accident where Oscar had no intention of shooting Reeva. A lot of hurt has been created and on top of that, there is already in this tragedy, that there's this lie being perpetuated that there was violence that there was an argument and that there was intention to shoot Reeva, which is not true and there hasn't been anything to support that.”
Well she would say that, wouldn't she?

South African prosecutors say they will take court action in order to secure a longer prison sentence for Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius.

Prosecutors argue that Pistorius' sentence is inappropriate for the crime of murder and "shockingly too lenient".

They also argue that the sentence is unjust and could bring the justice system into disrepute.

Re: Oscar Pistorius

I have just received this message from a friend in S Africa:-

Just a quickie to say I can't believe it, just heard on the radio that the state is again appealing Oscar Pistorius's latest sentence, will we ever hear the end of this case? I also think he got off far too lightly, but I'm sick of it all now, and also wondering how much all these appeals and retrials are costing the taxpayer.

Re: Oscar Pistorius

I'm just staggered that the original trial judge, the only person in the known universe to think him innocent, was allowed to sentence him, where was the sense in that?

Oscar Pistorius treated in hospital after 'slipping in cell'

Jailed South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has received treatment in hospital for wrist injuries.

A prisons spokesman said the injuries were "minor" and he had been returned to prison after Saturday's incident.

Carl Pistorius said on Twitter his brother had "slipped in his cell" and reports he had injured himself intentionally were "completely untrue".

Re: Oscar Pistorius

Earlier on Sunday, a report by City Press quoted an unnamed security guard at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria as saying the athlete had wounds to his wrists that had been bandaged.
It said blades had been found in a subsequent search of Pistorius's cell.

Re: Oscar Pistorius

Oscar Pistorius' lawyers will argue that "enough is enough" when his case resumes in court on Aug. 26 to hear an appeal by state prosecutors against his six-year murder sentence on the grounds it is too lenient.

The National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Luvuyo Mfaku said the case would be heard at the High Court in Pretoria next Friday before the original trial Judge Thokozile Masipa.

Pistorius is not expected to attend the hearing.
Is Masipa the only judge in town .....

Pistorius: Bid to challenge six-year jail term fails

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-37195090

South African state prosecutors have failed in their bid to challenge the six-year sentence for murder handed down to Oscar Pistorius.

Prosecutors described the Paralympic athlete's punishment for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013 as "shockingly lenient".

At the hearing in Pretoria, Judge Thokozile Masipa said the petition had no reasonable prospect of success.

The state now has 21 days to take its case to the Supreme Court of Appeal.
Surprise, surprise, Masipa favours Pistorius .....
