Sugar, in any form, can restore the body very quickly though (about 15 mins)so cyclist would be wise to always carry glucose tablets when active.
I have the occasional hypo too and it has never affected my brain function... well, that's my opinion anyway!
It's usually in the morning when I feel the symptoms and I have a tube of Refreshers or Love Hearts in my bedside drawer. I just take a few of them an go back to sleep.
Seriously, I consider myself lucky that I have never suffered any more serious consequences of hypoglycaemia.
