Swim, all I said was there are armed police patrolling the Manchester Market and shoppers feel nervous incase there is trouble expected that they were not aware of.

I'm not on about the ins and outs of when they are allowed to fire.
I am on about some shoppers welcoming them, while others it makes nervous.

Big concrete barriers have been put up too.

I think Swims was having a dig at the authorities, Mups, not your post.

Being a resident of Manchester, an adopted Mancunian for over 45 years, I find the changing face of every day life depressing.

Having said that it's a necessary step towards a safer Christmas....not a safe one.

The advantage of a heavy armed cop presence is an obvious deterrent...to those wishing to bring carnage to the city.

The downside?
A lesser attractive and protected area becomes number one target.
