It may come to that, especially when it comes to the fact that the government recently announced that they want to do away with gas boilers, meaning everything will be dependant on electricity, electricity which if you believe the electricity suppliers is already at capacity. It happened in the US when they had very bad weather which knocked out sub stations and cabling resulting in rationing of electricity to a number of cities and states.
It has happened in the UK, at one of the not so recent world cups when England was playing. I remember reading in the papers the day after the match that electricity companies where urging the public to not all use their electric at the same time. Basically what had happened was when half time came along, thousands upon thousands of people went to put the kettle on to make a brew and the electricity system buckled under the pressure. Numerous towns across the country went into black out.
Critics of electric cars have said the same will happen. Electric car owners will get home from work and plug their car in to charge. The electric companies have stated that the UK does not have the infrastructure to cope with electric cars. Underground cabling would need to be upgraded, substations upgraded, power stations upgraded and in some cases modified, plus new power stations needing to be built.
Going green with electric cars is a pipe dream because the government refuses to listen to the concerns of the electric companies.
