I'm like that Meg, but not so much when i lose something but more when i cant do something. e.g. technology, or finding my way places. In fact, finding my way somewhere new has become almost a phobia.

I was brought up to believe that if one cannot laugh at oneself - one has no right to laugh at anyone else! That works ... most of the time.
