Agree with this sentence , being a cyclist in the past , the roads to day are much busier and dangerous to the Cyclist ,I have on a couple of occasions though been almost hit by a cyclist yob speeding through the busy paved area of Nottingham City Centre.
Slowing down where pedestrians are is the answer .

Hi

Simple fact of life, if you are hit by a car or motorbike on the road you are covered by insurance, even if they are not insured.

Hit by a cyclist on the pavement and you are not, no matter how serious your injuries.

This is wrong.

Lots of shared cycle lanes around here but I have never seen anyone use them.

I have ... on a quiet cycle day to avoid pushchairs. I just walk quicker in a higher gear and stick my arm out to signal when I change lanes.

Bikes should be on the road.
Cyclists should also have insurance cover or some form of minimal road tax.
I agree with this.

I dislike cyclists intensely already - this will help nothing imo.
And yes, they damn well should be insured.

Re: Cyclists told "You won't be fined for riding on pavements"

I think this is an example of a common situation in this country.

1. The authorities come up with some hare-brained scheme.

2. Someone, in this particular case a pedestrian, is killed as a result.

3. The authorities, although never admitting their mistake, realise that laws need to be changed.

4. If we're lucky, a sensible solution is found and put in place.

5. The authorities come up with some unrelated hare-brained scheme.

6. As above.

Any little git on a cycle who comes too close to me on the pavement is just as likely to have my walking stick rammed either through his spokes or somewhere excruciatingly painful!!!
