That must have been a trauma. I think it's a good idea to put herbs in a muslin bag, I will take that advice myself in the future.

How frightening for you Spinner, glad you coughed the troublesome leaf up!
Don't let it put you off though, bay leaf is nice but it is a hard leaf, how about drying some and sprinkling them over the dish?
Hope your throat isn't sore today.

Re: Danger: Bay leaves may be about

Well, I thought I might be off eating for a while, but no! Although I am being rather more careful.
And will be investing in a muslin bag for any future bay leaf activity.
I was surprised at how expensive bay trees are, the friend who I gave mine to was very happy to take it, as she had seen similar size ones on sale for £40!
(She did ask if I had two, for either side of the door... tch..some people!)

I did, of course, warn her about the lethal tendencies of the innocent looking leaves, but she said 'I have a mezzaluna, they will be chopped before use.'

(what's a mezzaluna?)

Don't they look lethal...do they come with a warning?
I can see another A & E visit, to have a finger sown back

I am glad you are ok Spinner though I wouldn't blame the bay, you can choke on anything .

I use lots of bay leaves and sometimes use a muslin but more often than not string because I am using a bouquet garni .

So as to be completely prepared I wonder how you managed to swallow a whole bay leaf. It sounds very unpleasant.

How to swallow a whole bay leaf

Add 2 or 3 whole bay leaves to a potato hash
Remove 2 leaves, and think you have removed them all
Eat whilst watching T.V

(it's that easy)
