I have had many friends with Labs and they all had lovely temperaments. We used to walk with a couple every night and my yorkie just loved them.

Re: For Doggie people...

Ever since I was small I have always wanted an Afghan Hound they are just so elegant I once nearly had one as she was a rescue but at the time lived in a small terraced house with only a yard outside (like Coranation Street) so didn't take her on... Oh regrets....
But I do love my Miniature Schnauzer she is so funny never a day goes by that she doesn't have is in fits of laughter she is a joy to own....

Re: For Doggie people...

Lots of lab fans here and I must say they tend to be lovely natured dogs.
My Mum and her new rescue (whose collection finalised the bout of sciatica I am suffering) are settling down really well - and I haven't been fit enough to do the journey to go and see them!
Animals are so forgiving. Poor Poppy has been used as a breeding machine and then just discarded Grrrr

I used to have afghan hounds, we had six at one time, we were very involved with afghan rescue in the 70's, they can be very naughty dogs, most afghan hound owners turn their door handles upside down because afghans are very good at opening them.

I would have a German Shepherd if I was younger and able to give him/her the exercise he deserved, Tilly

I would love a Springer - they look such fun and I like gundogs / working dogs.
But I doubt I`ll ever have the time as I have 4 dogs now - all with various needs and issues.

Re: For Doggie people...

When our Collies were pups I had a Lab/Gsd cross who would jump up and down to open the doors because she first did it unintentionally, it wasn't long before the Collies learned the trick, so we changed to round brass doorknobs. Guess what? we couldn't open the doors so it was back to the handles.

If I didnt have my dogs I would like a golden retreiver for a large dog as they are so gentle or a chinese crested, hairless or tibetan terrier, I also like wheaten terriers oh and bassetts. I would love a black and white pointer but I know I dont have time to give it the stimulation and exercise it needs so it wouldnt be fair.

Re: For Doggie people...

I've always had short coated breeds like Dobes and Rotties, 12 years ago my wife wanted a Newfie so we got Nelson, . . I love him to bits, he'll be 13 next spring, but never again will I consider a long coated dog, . . the hairs are a nightmare.
