I howled a few months ago when a group of workmen arrived at our third floor flat to update the electrics, the first thing they all did was don hi-viz jackets!

Pffffft!! How daft! See, I told you it was all OTT. I think they feel important if they have one on. 'Hey, look at me, everyone. I'm somebody important! I have an important job.'

There was an elderly lady who used to walk her dog in the village on a busy road with no pavement, she always wore a yellow high viz jacket. She (and her dog) got killed by a lorry.
