Re: Peas

If I buy peas in a pod they never make it as far as a pan to do anything with them.

That reminds me of when I was a youngster my dad used to buy big sacks full of peas in a pod and I had to shell them. He never used to get very many as I ate them. It still makes me smile now.

Aysa, yes I used to help my mum shell the peas, I am sure a lot of them went straight into my mouth.
I like all vegetables, but can't eat cauliflower, I like it but it doesn't like me

Re: Peas

I like most vegetables and peas (of any sort) are one of my favourites. I usually just steam them, but I do add them to all sorts of other dishes sometimes. Mushy peas with fish and chips are good, although I am a bit fussy about whose mushy peas I have. If I have some to pod, I also eat at least one out of every pod. We grew some this year and the first lot were ok but the b****y pigeons ruined the rest by eating the leaves down to nothing before the pods started to grow. Pigeons have been really bad this year attacking our vegetables.

That's the best. I used to grow peas but not many of them actually made it to the kitchen table because I would sit outside and pull the pods off the vines and sit and eat them, one by one. I wish we could buy them that way, but never once have I seen fresh peas sold in a market or a grocery store. Snow peas and snap peas, yes, but not plain green peas.

I love peas as a side dish, in soups, in pasta dishes and even on salads.

You are so lucky! Here in the states, green peas are not sold fresh, they're only sold frozen or canned. At least here in my part of the world, anyway.
