"None of the above" would make a bad situation very much worse.
I completely agree with all this, which must be a first!
The usual kneejerk objection to PR is that it always leads to coalitions. What these naysayers do not realise is the Tory and Labour Parties are both coalitions with one faction or another achieving dominance at any one time and the others either keeping shtum or causing trouble from the wings.
With PR it is the electorate who has the say not faceless power brokers with their vested interests. The outcome, I would hope, would be a government programme that roughly reflects the manifestos of the constituent parties, combined proportionately.
As for the Royal family, the class structure in this country is the barrier to progress. Would Johnson be PM now if he had not gone to Eton? Rich parents and a childhood spent incarcerated there seems to be a badge of worthiness that counts for more than ability. The greasy pole of social advancement is blocked for many people for reasons that go beyond wealth. The HoL is the governmental expression of this minority of privilege and the keystone that hold the whole sorry edifice together is the Royal family. As long as they are there, there will be no appreciable change for the better. They have to go.
