In our old house, there were lots of things happening like that - it was an older couple that had lived there 60 years - real curious they were, into everything !!

That is very strange Arthur, I'm afraid I'm a sucker for all this weird stuff. I think this is a sign from the beyond indicating something needs to be written down, ask yourself, have you some outstanding business that requires attention? are you expecting news from someone you haven't heard from in years?, is your will in order? I think someone it trying to get in touch with you about something you may have overlooked.
I remember my granny telling me that she accidently knocked over a bottle of ink when cleaning the library desk years ago, she worked in a large house as a maid in Liverpool at the time, she said that meant she was going to get a letter from someone and the next day she received a letter from her brother in America, she thought he had died in the first world war, so maybe good news is on it's way to you.
